The vines of La Nerthe flower over a highly varied terrain of terraces and hillsides perched above the Rhone. The soils have a clay or sandy-clay texture, covered with a thick layer of stones - the famous "galets roulés", those enormous flattish smooth stones that characterize Châteauneuf vineyards.

During the day, these stones accumulate warmth, and radiate heat, restituting it to the vine at night, in this way contributing to the ripening of the grapes in summer.
In addition, these generous stones allow water to run off, keeping the soil cool and limiting evaporation.
