Thirteen grape varieties (more information)
Among the 13 grape varieties of the Château La Nerthe domaine, the majority are best suited for red wines. Others are suited only for white wines.
Those reserved for red wines:
Grenache (representing 62 percent of the area planted with red varieties), which brings to the blend a roundness, richness, and attractive hints of cherries and leather;
Syrah (18 percent), which offers color, tannins, longevity and intense aromas of violets and truffles;
Mourvèdre (15 percent), is the guarantee of an abundance of lovely tannins and an excellent structure for ageing;
Cinsault (4 percent), a source of fruitiness and elegance.
The other varietals, by their presence even if discreet, confer complexity and depth.
The white wines are made from:
Roussanne (32 percent of the surface planted with white varietals), the guarantee of an aromatic intensity;
Clairette (28 percent), which adds floral aromas;
Bourboulenc (24 percent), which brings a freshness to the blend;
Grenache Blanc (16 percent), which supplies a rich fleshiness.
